The announcement of yet further significant increases in postal charges by Royal Mail, commencing 1st April 2014, coupled with the introduction last year of a distance fuel surcharge of 2.5% on parcels, depending on how far they have to travel, has effectively ended the Nationwide standard pricing structure that Royal Mail are supposed to adhere to. This combined with the introduction of VAT charging last year on all postage, has unfortunately lead to our own price increases. The new prices, showing significant increases for 1st Class and 2nd Class parcels have mean't an increase in ALL our costs across the board, as most of our stock and raw materials from our suppliers comes via Royal Mail.

Rather than increase our postage costs to customers in 2014 we have opted to reduce packaging and parcel size where possible and send all none urgent standard packets and parcels via Royal Mail 2nd Class post.


Understanding our postal charges

The complexities and seemingly infinite variations in postal charges and global destinations can at times make charging postage a bit of a nightmare. By adding items to the shopping cart you will be able to see the standard postage costs payable to ship your item/s before checkout.

We have gone to great lengths with our on-line shopping cart to ensure that customers are charged a reasonable postage rate. However due to the complexity of postal charges, parcel weight, class, size, destination etc., it just isn't possible for us to cover every permutation for every destination. When trying to calculate postage costs the following needs to be considered

  • Destination
  • Weight of the item
  • Multiple purchases
  • Product value
  • Speed of delivery required
  • Prohibited items

UK Customers pay only £2.10  for postage & packing on small items weighing up to 100g and £3.95 for postage & packing on small items weighing up to 750g, this represents 90% of our products and services. For valuable items Royal Mail Special Delivery is also available from £7.25 up to £9.50 for 1kg. This is a fast, secure, tracked service that gets priority handling and registered next day delivery, with compensation up to £1,000.00.

International items weighing up to 1kg are sent via Royal Mail Signed For International. Prices for small items under 100g start at £9, under 500g £14, under 1000g up to £18, depending on location . This is a secure, tracked service that gets priority handling and registered delivery, with compensation up to £500.00. Royal Mail International Standard is also available, prices starting at £5, for small, low cost items. Heavier items weighing 2kg – 20kg are sent via Royal Mail Standard Parcels in the UK or via Parcel Force with additional compensation available. Items valued above £500.00 are sent via Parcel Force and all International packages heavier than 2kg are sent via Parcel Force Worldwide.

International customers placing orders weighing in excess of 1kg will incur significantly higher shipping charges. Items sent via Parcel Force Worldwide are the most difficult to calculate shipping on until we know the postal destination and parcel weight and dimensions.

We reserve the right to contact you for an additional payment to cover the correct amount of postage and packing prior to shipping your order if required. At this point you will have an opportunity to cancel your order if you decide that the postage is excessive.

There are 12 world postal pricing zones and the website by default is set to charge Europe, Rest of World (American/North America, Canada), Rest of World 2 (Australia, New Zealand). International customers should consider the following:

  • Once packages go over 1kg in weight postage becomes expensive.
  • Small items should be shipped separately to avoid going over the ‘magic' 2kg weight.
  • Small items should be combined with heavier items already in excess of 2kg.
  • Ensure your address and postal/zip code are correct.
  • Expect your item! We will notify you via e-mail once your item is dispatched.
  • If your item doesn't arrive check with your delivery office.
  • Has your postman tried to deliver? Items returned marked ‘RTS undelivered' will incur additional postal charges. You will have to pay for the item to be sent again!

By default, some larger and heavier items on our website can only be shipped separately. This is due to packing and postal weight limitations. You will need to call us if you require a combined postage option on blocked products and we will advise you accordingly.

Important Points for all customers to consider:

  • Standard 1st or 2nd Class post only provides compensation up to £20.00.
  • 1st or 2nd Class Royal Mail Signed For only provides compensation up to £50.00.
  • Royal Mail 24 or 48  through our Click & Drop account is scanned to the door and tracked parcel service. No signature is normally required. If the item is Recorded a signature is also needed on delivery.
  • Royal Mail Special Delivery is tracked and items can be insured up to £2,500.00.
  • Standard Parcels only provides compensation up to £20.00 with no insurance.

  • Ordering 1st Class Post or Royal Mail Special Delivery next day service does NOT mean you will receive your order next day. It means you will receive your goods one to two days after it is posted! All orders are subject to processing times. During busy periods, processing your order can take us 3 - 7 days for stock items and 14-28 days for out of stock items or special orders, though we always try our best to dispatch orders as quickly as possible.Please be aware that post only comes in and out of the County once a day. All post is bagged and dispatched at 11:30am, so orders placed after 9am are not downloaded until the following day.  During adverse weather conditions across Orkney and North Scotland, the air and sea postal services may also be suspended and delays inevitable. Thank you for your understanding and consideration at these times.
